A dispatch rider died on Saturday in a serious road accident involving two trucks at Ijesha, headed towards Mile 2, Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) shared this in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

LASEMA mentioned that its Eagle Response Team quickly responded to the crash involving a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA and an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV, along with the dispatch rider.

The agency stated, "Preliminary investigation by the Eagle Response Team showed that reckless driving and wrong road use by both truck drivers caused the accident."

According to them, the FAW truck hit the Iveco truck while both were trying to get the right of way, causing the Iveco truck to hit the dispatch rider from behind.

“Sadly, the dispatch rider lost his life in the incident. Officers from the Nigeria Police Force at Okota Division took the remains of the deceased and moved them to the morgue for identification and necessary procedures,” LASEMA said.

The two trucks were later moved off the main road and parked in a designated area to clear the way.

LASEMA explained, "This action was taken to prevent further blockage and to ensure smooth traffic flow along the road."

The agency confirmed that the Eagle Response Team and Nigeria Police were at the scene, stating, "The operation was successfully completed and the road has been declared safe for motorists and other road users."

Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for his soul.

He also emphasized the Lagos State Government's commitment to the safety of all road users, especially those who are more vulnerable.

LASEMA urged all commercial drivers to stop reckless driving, wrong overtaking, and competing for lanes.

The agency added, "Road safety is a shared responsibility, and following traffic rules is key to preventing needless loss of lives on Lagos roads."

LASEMA also stated that it remains dedicated to quick emergency responses and teamwork with other agencies to protect lives and property in Lagos State.
