The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that they arrested two officers from the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps. This follows the death of a man named Success, who reportedly died from injuries he got after the officers allegedly tortured him.

Babaseyi Oluseyi, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed this news in a brief response to our reporter on Tuesday.

Oluseyi revealed that the officers are now in police custody after the incident.

“I can confirm that we have the officers involved in custody,” he said.

PUNCH Metro reported that the incident happened after an argument between Success and his mother on Saturday in the Oju-Ore area of Ogun State.

Success’s mother called some So-Safe officers about the matter, and they took him into custody. Instead of taking him to the police, the officers allegedly took him to an unfinished building where they severely assaulted him.

The victim was said to have died later from the injuries he received during the alleged torture.

A source who knows about the incident claimed that the officers beat Success for a long time after taking him away from his family home.

Meanwhile, So-Safe Corps leadership said they are working closely with the police to ensure justice is served.

The spokesperson for the corps, Moruf Adekunle, condemned the officers' actions, calling them a violation of the organization’s rules.

According to him, the officers acted outside their mandate and standard operating procedures.

“The mother called us to intervene, and some of our ad hoc personnel responded. They were expected to report the matter to the appropriate authorities, but unfortunately, they took the law into their own hands.

“Immediately the incident came to our attention, we handed over the first suspect to the Nigerian Police Force and then handed over the second officer for investigation and prosecution.

“The commandant does not condone any form of human rights abuse. We are working with the police to ensure justice is done,” Adekunle said.

He added that the state commander of the corps, Soji Ganzallo, has consistently warned personnel against human rights violations, unlawful detention, and interfering in matters beyond their authority.

This incident has raised fresh concerns about alleged torture and extrajudicial actions by some security operatives across Nigeria.

In recent years, rights groups and civil society organizations have repeatedly called for more accountability and stricter punishment for security personnel who are found guilty of torture, unlawful detention, and other human rights abuses.

The police stated that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Success’s death.
