The US Ambassador to Portugal, John Arrigo, has praised Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo for his impact on the game and his impressive career with the Portugal national team.
Arrigo called Ronaldo’s career one that goes beyond just sports. He highlighted Ronaldo’s drive, skill, and commitment to his country over the past twenty years.
In a post on X on Thursday, the ambassador pointed out that Ronaldo’s record of 146 goals in 234 matches for Portugal is just a part of what he has done for the national team.
“Some careers transcend sport. Cristiano Ronaldo’s is one of them. For more than two decades, he has worn Portugal’s colours with extraordinary determination, talent and pride,” Arrigo said.
He mentioned that the memories Ronaldo has created for millions of fans and the inspiration he has given to young athletes will always be cherished.
According to him, Ronaldo’s impact is more than just his success on the field. He called Ronaldo a great ambassador for Portugal.
“As he closes this chapter with the national team, we celebrate not only an extraordinary athlete, but a remarkable ambassador for his country,” he stated.
The ambassador also expressed gratitude to Ronaldo for his hard work and the joy he has brought to fans worldwide.
