Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, is reportedly close to buying English League One club Bromley. This would be his first big step into owning a football club.
On Wednesday, talkSPORT said the 38-year-old is leading a wealthy group of African investors. They are negotiating with Bromley’s owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, about a possible takeover.
The talks are moving forward, with both sides aiming to reach a deal. This takeover comes at a tough time for Bromley, who are finding it hard in their first season in League One. They got promoted from the National League in 2024 and made it to League Two last season.
Bromley's recent results have raised worries about their chances of staying in League One. Anichebe’s potential takeover could bring in new money and a fresh direction as the club tries to improve.
Since retiring from professional football in 2018, Anichebe has become interested in sports investment. He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company involved in sports, education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the UK.
Anichebe was also recently linked to a proposed £20 million leisure development project in Liverpool. His interest in Bromley comes after a failed attempt to buy non-league club Gateshead last year.
During his playing days, Anichebe was in the Premier League, scoring 27 goals and making 12 assists. At the international level, he played 11 times for Nigeria’s senior national team, scoring once.
His only goal for the Super Eagles was in a friendly match against Kenya, which ended 3-0 in Nigeria’s favor in 2011. He was also part of Nigeria’s Under-23 team that won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he scored against Japan.
If the deal goes through, buying Bromley would be a big step for Anichebe as he moves from being a player to owning a club and investing in sports.
