A video of lifestyle content creator Simi Sanya saying she can only cook a few meals for her husband has gotten people talking on social media. Her husband has never complained about it.

The video came out again on Tuesday from an interview on Talk Your Talk. It got people discussing marriage, cooking, and gender roles again. Some people think her situation shows honesty, while others see it as a lack of effort.

During the interview, Sanya said she made her cooking skills clear while dating to avoid surprises after marriage.

"You see me the way I am. You know that I don’t know how to cook. Now I’m in a relationship; you will now say let me go and be cooking for you in your house every weekend… why? Was that the plan? Didn’t I tell you before?" she said.

She added that her husband has never had a problem with it.

"Like me, in my marriage, I only know how to cook spaghetti, yam and egg, and bread and tea, and the boy has known, and he has not fought me since the day we got married. He has been eating the spaghetti with all goodness in his heart. Did he die?" she said.

Sanya also talked about cooking compatibility. She thinks it is one of the things couples should discuss before getting serious.

"Do you like fresh food? Because I don’t have to cook. So we might not be compatible," she said.

Her comments quickly got mixed reactions.

Supporting her, #LooneyMara wrote, "The fact that he eats it with love says more about the marriage than the menu ever could. That’s the kind of peace many people are looking for."

Similarly, #Kaytek1234 said, "That’s not a problem as long as two of you understand each other."

Another user, #Rhay2Clipz, remarked, "This is real love. He accepted her fully," while @softlife_space added, "Marrying someone who accepts you as you are is a blessing. Love isn’t measured by how many dishes you can cook."

Another user, #fiinnovate, called Sanya’s husband “an intentional man.”

But not everyone agreed with Sanya.

#ProsperUfo7253 wrote, "I will not understand anything… no way," suggesting he could not accept such an agreement.

Another user, #Shiekuma43, said, "This is a serious issue. I feel somehow a group of people have managed to depreciate the way Africans reason."

Criticising Sanya’s comments, #Blo_wid wrote, "Kim Kardashian learnt how to cook for her spouse. You… is saying this… Na the simp wey you marry go suffer."

Meanwhile, some people questioned if the interview was real. #officialfox6400 said, "I think this is ragebait. But I can cook, I won’t have worries if that’s the case."

Sanya and music video producer Femi Dapson legally, traditionally, and socially got married in a series of wedding ceremonies held between February and March 2026.
