Wike's Son Shows American Passport in $2.1 Million Land Case

Jordan Wike, who is the son of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, showed his American passport at the FCT High Court in Abuja on Wednesday. This was part of his defence in a case about a $2.1 million land allocation scandal in Abuja.

The case was brought by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited. They claimed that Mr Wike received $2.1 million in cash from them last year to help secure 30 hectares of land in two prime areas of Abuja.

Judge Sylvanus Oriji ordered Mr Wike on Monday to show his American passport. There was a dispute about where he was on 25 October 2025, the day the claimants said he received the cash at a house in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

Mr Wike denied taking any money from the claimants. He told the court that he was outside Nigeria on that date, saying he travelled abroad using his American passport.

But the claimants insisted they handed the money to Mr Wike to help with the land acquisition after meeting him in London and building a relationship.

They claimed that Mr Wike agreed to buy 30 hectares of land in Katampe and Guzape for the $2.1 million fee. They said he told them that $2 million was for his father, the minister, and $100,000 was for himself.

The claimants said they gave Mr Wike the $2.1 million in cash on 26 September 2025. They mentioned that Adamu Sani, Aliyu Sarki, and Sai Wani were present during the cash delivery. They also noted that Onor Sandy was there when the money changed hands.

According to the claimants, Mr Wike, whose father was once the governor of Rivers State, became unreachable after receiving the money. They later found out that the land plots were owned by a company that was getting ready to develop them.

They said they asked for their money back on 31 October 2025 but received no reply. This led them to file a suit to get their money back.

Mr Wike, on his part, denied these claims, as reported by Sahara Reporters. During the court session on Monday, Mr Wike, represented by his lawyer Ogwu Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), presented his statement against the case.

His lawyer submitted documents through him. Mr Wike insisted he did not know anything about the transaction when the claimants' lawyer, Hamza Dantani, cross-examined him.

Mr Dantani then asked the court to make Mr Wike write his full name and signature on plain paper five times each. The defence did not oppose this request, and the court granted it quickly.

When asked where he was on 26 September 2025, Mr Wike said he was outside the country. He also stated that he travelled abroad with his American passport. He said he could show the passport if needed.

At this point, Mr Dantani asked the court to make Mr Wike produce his American passport in court. The judge agreed to this request. Mr Oriji then postponed the case until Wednesday.

This case adds to the list of land acquisition issues involving Mr Wike and his father, the minister.
