The Kwara State Police have arrested a woman named Sadiat Yunusa. She is accused of killing a three-year-old girl, Ummaiyat Y., in Kaiama Local Government Area. This incident reportedly happened due to jealousy from a long-standing family issue.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, shared this information on Friday in Ilorin. He talked about the police’s recent efforts to fight violent crimes in the state.

Detectives began looking into the case on July 25. They got a report at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters about the suspicious death of the little girl.

Adekimi said, "On July 25, 2026, detectives commenced investigation into the tragic killing of Ummaiyat Y, a three-year-old girl, following a report received at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters."

He explained that the girl was left with a family member while her mother went to the Kaiama Central Market. During this time, Sadiat Yunusa is said to have taken the child to a nearby farm, where she allegedly killed her by strangling her.

The police chief said quick action by the police led to the woman's arrest. He also mentioned that she admitted to the crime while being questioned.

"Prompt investigative efforts led to the arrest of the suspect, who, during interrogation, voluntarily confessed to the commission of the offence," Adekimi said.

He added that the suspect claimed her actions were driven by anger and jealousy over her husband’s relationship with his second wife.

“She disclosed that the act was motivated by resentment and jealousy arising from a prolonged domestic dispute, alleging that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife,” he noted.

The police commissioner said Sadiat Yunusa has been charged in court. He assured the community that the police will keep working to investigate and prosecute criminal cases effectively in the state.
