Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna made his first appearance for Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday. He came off the bench as Fabian Hürzeler’s team won 3-0 against AS Roma in a pre-season friendly at the American Express Stadium.
The teenager entered the game from the substitutes’ bench and got his first chance to play in Brighton colours after his summer move from AIK.
Yohanna signed a five-year contract with Brighton that lasts until June 2031. He joined the Premier League club from AIK, but the details of the deal are not public.
At 19 years old, Yohanna played 18 matches for AIK before moving to England. He scored five goals and provided four assists, according to Brighton. AIK’s announcement noted three assists, so it’s best to stick with Brighton’s numbers when using their official profile.
Before his move to Brighton, Yohanna scored two goals and got three assists in his first seven Allsvenskan matches this season.
Hürzeler used 21 players during the easy win over the Italian side. Brighton had control for most of the match. Georginio Rutter scored the first goal in the 29th minute with a shot from about 20 yards. Yasin Ayari added two goals before and after half-time to finish his brace.
Yohanna’s journey started at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria. He moved to Sweden in 2025 and worked his way into AIK’s senior team. Brighton confirmed he had played 18 matches for AIK before joining them.
Making his debut for Brighton gives Yohanna another chance to grow as he adjusts to life at the Premier League club.
