Brighton & Hove Albion’s new player, Zadok Yohanna, has said that the club’s strong focus on young talents influenced his decision to leave AIK Stockholm for the Premier League team.
The talented Nigerian winger recently made a long-term move to Brighton after a quick rise in Sweden. He became one of the most promising young players in Scandinavian football.
Yohanna’s transfer marks a big step in his journey that started at the Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria. He moved to Sweden in 2025. The 18-year-old settled in well at AIK Stockholm, showing off his speed, creativity, and attacking skills.
His great performances this season caught the eye of several clubs across Europe. But Brighton ultimately secured his signature, sticking to their plan of bringing in young players with great potential.
After completing his move, Yohanna spoke on the club’s official website. He said Brighton’s history with young players made his choice easy.
"I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them," Yohanna said.
"They are really good at developing young talents, and I think their style of play will fit me a lot."
Brighton has received a lot of praise in recent years for turning young players into top performers. They consistently provide chances for emerging talents to shine in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Although he is excited about what lies ahead in England, Yohanna admitted that leaving AIK Stockholm was tough. He built strong bonds during his time in Sweden.
The teenager quickly became a fan favourite at AIK and thanked those around him for their support in helping him adapt to European football.
"I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me," he said.
"Everyone loved me, so it was difficult to leave."
Yohanna also shared that he spoke with Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler before finalizing the move. The German coach made it clear what was expected of him at the club.
According to the young Nigerian, Hurzeler’s message was straightforward: keep working hard and strive for improvement.
"He urged me to keep fighting and working hard," Yohanna said.
"I will give everything I have, and I really want to win trophies with the team."
With a five-year contract in hand and a new chapter starting, Yohanna joins a growing list of Nigerian talents aiming to shine in the Premier League. He brings along his potential and determination to succeed at the highest level.
