Zenith Bank Plc has announced that its customers can now use Google Pay. This makes everyday payments easier and safer. By adding a Zenith Bank card to Google Wallet, customers can pay at participating contactless terminals. They can also shop online or in apps without entering their card details every time.
As more Nigerians use their phones for shopping, paying bills, and managing money, Zenith Bank is improving banking experiences. They aim to combine ease and strong security in their services.
A simpler, safer payment option
Google Pay uses a method called payment tokenization. This replaces a customer's real card number with a digital token. This way, sensitive payment details are protected because there is less need to share real card numbers during payments.
For Zenith Bank customers, this means:
• Better security: Tokenization keeps real card details safe, lowering the risk during payments.
• Quicker checkout: Customers can tap their phones at contactless terminals or pay online without typing in card information again.
• Convenience across platforms: Eligible cards work with supported digital payment options, depending on device, merchant, and service.
• More peace of mind: Built-in security features help customers pay digitally with more confidence.
A history of innovation, a bright future
Zenith Bank's new payment option is part of its long history of using technology to enhance customer experiences.
In 2007, the bank opened Nigeria’s first ATM gallery. This was a full branch without tellers, allowing customers to access cash, even on weekends and holidays. At a time when banking meant long queues, this provided a more convenient option.
Today, Zenith Bank continues its commitment to innovation and aims to grow its digital services.
The Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Adaora Umeoji, highlighted the importance of this new technology. She called it 'digitally forward.' She also mentioned the upcoming Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026, titled Future Forward 6.0, happening on November 5. This event will further discuss these advancements.
How to get started
Customers with eligible Zenith Bank cards can add them to Google Wallet on compatible devices. They need to open the app, choose the option to add a payment card, and complete the verification process.
Once set up, customers can use Google Pay at participating contactless terminals and supported online or in-app checkout points. Availability depends on card eligibility, device compatibility, and merchant acceptance.
