The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections. There are 12 candidates for Plateau State’s three senatorial districts.

The list includes well-known political figures. This includes former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, former senator Simon Mwadkwon, and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development Solomon Dalung.

In Plateau North, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked Mr Mwadkwon. He ran for the same senatorial seat in 2023 with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He will compete against Rose Mwanti of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Musa Bature of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and Dalyop Gwottson of the PDP.

In Plateau Central, the APC has chosen Bitrus Kasuwa. He will face Yusuf Bello of the ADC, Yusuf Ishaku of the NDC, and Timothy Golu of the PDP.

The current senator for this district, Diket Plang of the APC, is missing from the list for Plateau Central. Mr Plang has represented this district since June 2023 after winning in the 2023 general election.

In Plateau South, Mr Lalong is the APC candidate. He will go against Mr Dalung of the ADC, Peter Dandam of the NDC, and Johnbull Shekarau of the PDP.

Mr Lalong won the Plateau South senatorial seat in 2023 as an APC candidate after being governor for two terms.

Mr Dalung, who was minister of youth and sports development under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is also looking to return to the Senate with the ADC.

The list shows that candidates from 21 political parties are running for the 109 Senate seats across the country. However, the candidates from Plateau State include those from the four parties mentioned above.

The names and party affiliations come from INEC’s final candidate list.
