The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor in Ekiti State, Oluwadare Bejide, raised alarms about vote-buying in Ilawe Ekiti on Saturday.
Mr Bejide spoke to the Nigerian Police after he cast his vote at his polling unit, Oke Adura, polling unit 04, Ekiti-South West.
He had a heated discussion with police officers after accusing a woman of trying to buy votes. He said, “You brought money here; it is against the law. Yes, I saw you with money.”
The woman, whose name we do not know, responded, “Which money? Where is the money here? That is a big lie.” The police officer present had to step in to separate them.
The police responded to Mr Bejide’s worry by saying, “The only thing I can do for you is to provide an enabling environment; we are dropping some manpower.”
More Allegations of Vote-Buying
In another part of Ekiti, there were also claims of vote-buying in Gbonyin LGA, ward 06, polling unit 15 around 10:18 a.m. Reports say party agents handed out N10,000 to voters in a nearby hidden spot after checking their identity tags.
