AfriGO, Nigeria’s homegrown card scheme, made a significant impact at the Digital Pay Expo 2026. The event took place on June 17 and 18, 2026, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos. It brought together various players in Nigeria’s finance sector. This included the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), major banks, fintech companies, payment processors, card production firms, and digital infrastructure providers.
AfriGO was a key voice at the event, showing its importance in shaping the future of payments in Nigeria. The scheme focuses on making payments inclusive and advanced for everyone.
In a keynote session, Mr Ugo Obasi, the Executive Director and Chief Commercial Officer (ED/CCO) of AfriGO, spoke passionately about their journey. His address was titled “The AfriGO Journey: Driving Financial Inclusion Through Innovative Payment Solutions.”
The session highlighted how AfriGO has grown from an idea to a national payment scheme. It also discussed the new innovations that help position AfriGO as a top domestic payment option. These include Cowry Terminal Payment Cards, a Loyalty Platform, the AfriGO-BOA Card Initiative, Virtual Cards, and a Tokenisation Engine.
“AfriGO’s story is one of conviction, resilience, and a deep belief in Nigeria’s capacity to own and drive its payment future. Every product we are unveiling here is a direct response to the needs of Nigerians from the farmer in Benue to the student in Kano to the entrepreneur in Lagos. We are building infrastructure that works for everyone, powered by technology that is ours. The partnerships, the innovations, the platform we are building, this is what it means to put Nigeria first in payments,” said Ugo Obasi.
Outside the main stage, AfriGO had an exhibition booth that became a busy center of interaction during the two days. Many industry players, financial institutions, merchants, tech providers, and individuals came to check out AfriGO’s products, ask questions, and explore possible collaborations.
AfriGO’s involvement in Digital Pay Expo 2026 marks another important step in its journey as the backbone of Nigeria’s payment identity. With a growing range of innovative solutions and strong partnerships, AfriGO shows that Nigeria has the ambition, skills, and infrastructure to lead its payment future.
