An Air Peace plane on a scheduled flight from Abuja to Kano has been stopped after hitting a bird when it landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

The airline shared news of the incident on Wednesday. They said the plane was taken out of service to follow safety rules.

Air Peace reported that the bird hit happened shortly after the plane landed in Kano.

The airline said the plane is now being checked to see if there is any damage before it can fly again.

"To follow aviation safety rules, we have grounded the affected aircraft for technical checks," the airline stated.

To help affected passengers, Air Peace quickly sent another plane to keep flights on schedule.

The airline noted that this decision was to make sure passengers reach their destinations safely and meet operational standards.

They expressed regret for the disruption and asked for understanding from the passengers affected.

This incident adds to the rising number of bird strikes affecting flights in Nigeria recently.

Bird strikes happen when birds hit planes during take-off, landing, or flying. While many cases cause minor damage, some lead to expensive repairs, delays, and other problems.

Aviation experts say the issue is linked to the environment around airports. Open rubbish dumps, waste sites, water bodies, and other things attract birds.

In Nigeria, fast urban growth near airport areas and problems with waste management are also causing more bird strikes.

Even though airport authorities use wildlife patrol teams and bird-control measures, these incidents still happen at airports across the country.

The repeated cases have brought more focus on wildlife hazard management. Aviation stakeholders increasingly see bird strikes as both environmental and operational issues.

Air Peace said safety is their top priority. They also confirmed their dedication to following all regulatory and operational rules.

"We truly empathize with our valued passengers affected by this unexpected disruption," the airline said.

The airline thanked passengers for their patience and understanding. They added that they are committed to keeping high safety standards in all their operations.
