Ajax wants to sign Arokodare permanently

Ajax has told Wolverhampton Wanderers they want to sign Nigeria forward Tolu Arokodare for good after his strong start in the Netherlands.

Foot Africa reports that the Dutch team is being active and is already working to agree on terms with Wolves for a deal that would last until 2027.

Arokodare joined Ajax this summer after a tough first season at Molineux. Wolves paid £24 million for him less than a year ago, but he had a hard time making an impact and was said to have had a clash with the new head coach, Cesar Peixoto.

Wolves were only able to agree on a loan with Ajax. The deal has an option to buy if the player does well in Amsterdam. It is not clear if Ajax is trying to lower the fee, which has not been revealed.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 14 matches for Ajax this season. This performance may make it hard for Ajax to negotiate a lower price. He has found the net in five of his last seven Eredivisie matches as Ajax tries to challenge for the title, even though he has played the full 90 minutes only three times across all competitions.

His most recent goal came in Ajax's 2-1 victory away to Sparta Rotterdam, pushing them up to second place in the league.

Abdellah Ouazane put Ajax in front in the 22nd minute. Jens Toornstra equalised in the 43rd minute, marking his 500th Eredivisie game. Arokodare then restored the lead just two minutes later, sliding the ball into the far corner after Julian Brandt led a counter-attack.

Wolves sit fourth in the Championship and are lacking options in attack. Raul Jimenez is out until at least January, Adam Armstrong has only two league goals, and Newcastle United loanee Sean Neave has made just two league starts.
