Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has openly supported Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup journey for 2026. He shared a photo of himself with the Portuguese star on social media after Ronaldo scored two goals against Uzbekistan.
Adams showed his support at a time when Ronaldo, 41, faced harsh criticism after Portugal's 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their first group match.
Ronaldo responded to his critics with a strong performance against Uzbekistan. He scored two goals and celebrated one with a bold “I’m back” gesture that quickly spread online.
Adams and Ronaldo have a memorable connection from when Nigeria played Portugal in a friendly before the World Cup. The Super Eagles lost that match 2-1, and during the game, Adams and Ronaldo talked on the field. They were seen sharing a warm hug at the end of the match.
Adams looked up to the Portuguese captain, who is the all-time top scorer in UEFA Champions League history, even in that competitive match.
The Nigerian forward has admired Ronaldo for a long time. But he has also mentioned that his biggest idol is the Brazilian Ronaldo.
“Honestly, there’s no player I fancy like Ronaldo Nazario. For me, he’s the best football player I have watched. I feel something when I watch him, and he is the greatest of all time for me. That’s all that matters for me,” Adams told Sporty TV in a past interview.
Ronaldo and the Portugal team have already made it to the round of 32. They are among the early teams to qualify, joining Argentina, who had a stunning performance from Lionel Messi. Messi scored a hat-trick against Algeria and added two goals against Austria.
