Alderweireld Wants Spurs to Snatch Osimhen from Arsenal

Former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is calling on the club to outsmart Arsenal and sign Victor Osimhen. He believes the Nigerian striker could bring the goals Tottenham missed last season, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Tottenham has made big moves to strengthen their squad this summer. They have shown interest in Osimhen, but Arsenal and other clubs are also in the race.

Alderweireld thinks Osimhen would be a great fit for Roberto De Zerbi's attack. Tottenham is still on the lookout for a solid centre forward before the transfer window closes.

“Spurs could use a striker like Victor Osimhen. They need his goals because it’s what they lacked last season as well,” Alderweireld said in an interview with Hajper.

He pointed out that clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United may worry about Osimhen's age. He noted, “He’s not the youngest player anymore and it seems like everyone wants to find a 23-year-old superstar who can bang in goals for the next seven or eight years. I understand that, but you also need a good mix.”

Tottenham has already spent big on their squad, breaking their transfer record twice to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a total of £185m.

They have also added Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka, but they still want to boost their attack.

The club has been linked with wingers like Savinho, Cody Gakpo and Pedro Neto. But Alderweireld insists that they should focus on getting a proven scorer like Osimhen.

The former Belgium international also highlighted the need to mix experienced players with young talent. He drew from his time at Ajax to explain this.

“That’s why it can be important to sign proven players who know how things go so they can bring on the younger, potential superstars alongside them. They can set the best example,” he said.

“I think about my time at Ajax. The mix was on another level. We had Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind and Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt coming through. That’s what you need.”

But getting Osimhen might not be easy. Arsenal is also said to be keen on the striker.

Reports say Galatasaray has talked with Arsenal about potential deals involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, with Osimhen mentioned in those talks. But there are no active negotiations right now.
