Asaba to host President Federation Cup final

The Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State will be the venue for the finals of the men’s and women’s competitions of the 2026 President Federation Cup. Three-time champions El-Kanemi Warriors will face surprise team Ikorodu City in the men’s final on Saturday, July 11.

Both teams reached the final after winning their semi-final matches on Wednesday. Ikorodu City narrowly beat Nasarawa United 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. This loss adds to Nasarawa United’s tough history in the competition, as they also lost the 2021 final on penalties to Bayelsa United at the same venue.

In Katsina, El-Kanemi Warriors showed their strength by defeating Wikki Tourists 3-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. This win secures their spot in the final and keeps their hopes alive for a fourth President Federation Cup title. They previously won the tournament in 1991, 1992, and 2024.

El-Kanemi Warriors captain Zayyad Musa praised the home fans in Katsina for motivating his team. He said, "We played as if we were in Maiduguri. The atmosphere was so electric, and we are truly delighted with what the people of Katsina did for us."

On the other side, Wikki Tourists technical adviser Evans Ogenyi expressed his disappointment at the team's exit. He acknowledged that they had given their best effort.

"The result is disappointing because it has brought an end to our campaign in the competition. We did our best to win and qualify for the final, but God has destined that this is how far we can go," Ogenyi said.

While El-Kanemi Warriors aim to add another trophy to their collection, Ikorodu City hopes to finish one of the most exciting cup runs in recent years when both teams clash in Asaba.
