Atlético Madrid are now interested in Victor Osimhen. They have made inquiries about the Galatasaray striker as they prepare for a big summer transfer window, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Spanish club is watching the situation of the Nigerian player in Turkey. This follows the uncertain future of their striker, Julián Álvarez, who is linked with a move to Arsenal.
Álvarez was earlier reported to be a target for Barcelona. But the Catalan club has lost interest due to the player’s high €100m price tag.
Now, Arsenal have renewed their interest in the Argentine. This has made Atlético look for a possible replacement in Osimhen. The Nigerian has been doing well in Turkey.
Osimhen's Performance
Osimhen joined Galatasaray last summer and has been impressive at Rams Park. In two seasons, he has scored 59 goals and made 16 assists in 74 matches across all competitions.
Fichajes reports that initial talks have happened. The player is said to be interested in moving to La Liga. But Galatasaray wants at least €100m for his transfer.
Atlético seems ready to pay that amount if Álvarez leaves.
Recently, Osimhen dismissed rumors about leaving Galatasaray. Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle had hinted that he was preparing for a club change this summer. Sources close to the 27-year-old say he will only leave Rams Park if Galatasaray decides to let him go.
Interest from Other Clubs
Osimhen has also caught the eye of many top European clubs. These include Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
If Osimhen joins Atlético, he would play alongside his Super Eagles teammate, Ademola Lookman. Lookman joined the club in January.
In the last season, Osimhen faced Atlético in the Champions League. The match took place on January 21 in Istanbul and ended in a draw. After the game, Osimhen praised Atlético coach Diego Simeone.
