South Korean player Kang-In Lee has moved to Atletico Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain, the club announced on Saturday.
“Atletico de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement for the transfer of Kang-In Lee, who has signed for our club until June 30, 2031,” the Spanish club stated.
Lee, a skilled left-footed midfielder at 25 years old, can play in the attacking midfield position or on either wing. He is known for his vision, great ball control, and ability to pass and shoot, according to his new club.
The clubs did not disclose the transfer fee, but a source close to the talks told AFP it was around 40 million euros ($45.5 million), not counting bonuses.
PSG thanked Lee, who joined them from Valencia in 2023, saying they appreciated his contribution.
During his time at PSG, he scored 16 goals in 124 matches and won 12 trophies. However, he had limited playing time under coach Luis Enrique and dealt with a thigh injury in January.
Lee did not play in PSG’s last two Champions League finals as he was an unused substitute.
He is Atletico’s third signing of the summer, following Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand and Spanish defender Alejandro Grimaldo. Meanwhile, club legend Antoine Griezmann has moved to Orlando City in Major League Soccer.
Lee made his last of 50 international appearances in the World Cup, where South Korea was eliminated in the group stage.
PSG has also sold attacker Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan. Sources told AFP that they are in talks with Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.
In other news, Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov signed a five-year contract extension with the club on Saturday.
Khusanov played a part in City winning the FA Cup and League Cup last season and helped the team finish second in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old centre-back joined City from French club Lens in January 2025.
He has represented Uzbekistan 30 times and played in all three of their Group K matches in the World Cup.
“This is a great day for me and my family. I am really happy to extend my stay at City,” Khusanov said.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester and I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player.
“I have a new challenge now, which is to impress (new manager) Enzo Maresca and his staff and make sure I am in his team regularly. I am determined to do that.”
Khusanov is the second City player to secure a long-term deal this week, after England forward Phil Foden signed a new four-year contract.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said: “We’ve been really pleased and impressed by Abdukodir’s development since he arrived in England.
“We’re seeing him grow into a brilliant young man and an outstanding defender, but we know this is only the beginning. His physical and technical abilities are top, he has all the skills needed to be a world-class centre-back.
“At just 22, his best years are ahead of him and his potential to improve is clear for everyone to see.
