Super Eagles winger Femi Azeez might need to consider other options for his Premier League chance this summer. Millwall’s £30m asking price and competition from a more established player are making a move to Aston Villa less likely.
Azeez, 25, had his best season in the EFL Championship. He scored 18 goals and provided assists, earning a spot in the Team of The Season.
Football Insider reports that his great performance caught Villa's attention. Coach Unai Emery wants to boost his options on the wings for the upcoming Champions League season. But there are challenges on both sides of the deal.
The first issue is Millwall’s price. The South London club turned down a £20m offer from Ipswich Town. They are sticking to their £30m demand for a player who has not played in the Premier League yet. For a club like Villa, that is a big investment in someone who has not proven himself in the top flight. This is especially true with a more experienced option available.
That option is Crysencio Summerville from the Netherlands. He has improved his reputation with strong performances at the 2026 World Cup. Summerville has played in the Premier League before and has shown he can compete at high levels. This makes him a safer choice for Villa’s recruitment team when they look at the two players.
Other clubs like Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town are also interested in Azeez. Their interest gives Millwall a stronger position in negotiations, making it less likely that Villa will rush to improve their offer.
A bigger concern for Emery is timing. Villa needs players who can step in right away with a busy schedule of Champions League and domestic matches ahead. Azeez is still developing, and moving from the Championship to European competition is a big jump. Villa may not have the time he needs to adjust.
Despite these challenges, Azeez still has chances to reach the Premier League this summer. Interest from various clubs shows he is ready for the next step.
