The Bauchi State Police have detained an 18-year-old named Aisanu Nura. He is being held over the drowning of a 17-year-old boy, Abdullahi Muhammad, in Kari Village, Darazo Local Government Area.

This information came from the police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the incident was reported to the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters on May 24, 2026.

Habib mentioned, “A report was received at the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters alleging that one Abdullahi Muhammad, male, aged 17 years, of Kari Village, drowned in the Kari River under circumstances suspected to involve one Aisanu Nura, male, aged 18 years, also of the same address.”

He explained that early investigations showed that the suspect may have lured the victim to the river, leading to his drowning.

The police spokesperson added that officers from the Darazo Division quickly went to the scene, arrested the suspect, and started a preliminary investigation.

He pointed out that the victim’s body had not been found yet, and search operations are still ongoing.

“The body of the deceased is yet to be recovered, and search efforts are ongoing,” Habib stated.

He also mentioned that the case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a detailed investigation.

Habib noted that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a thorough and professional investigation into the incident.

He further assured the public that justice will be served according to the law and that anyone responsible will be prosecuted.

The police also urged parents and guardians to keep a close eye on teenagers and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
