The Bauchi State Police have taken an 18-year-old named Aisanu Nura into custody. He is linked to the drowning of a 17-year-old boy, Abdullahi Muhammad, in Kari Village, which is in the Darazo Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the incident was reported to the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters on May 24, 2026.
Habib said, "A report was received at the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters alleging that one Abdullahi Muhammad, male, aged 17 years, of Kari Village, drowned in the Kari River under circumstances suspected to involve one Aisanu Nura, male, aged 18 years, also of the same address."
He explained that early investigations showed that the suspect possibly lured the deceased to the river, which led to the drowning.
The police spokesman added that officers from the Darazo Division quickly went to the scene, arrested the suspect, and started initial investigations.
He also noted that the body of the victim has not been found yet, and search efforts are still ongoing. "The body of the deceased is yet to be recovered, and search efforts are ongoing," Habib stated.
He further mentioned that the case has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a detailed investigation.
Habib revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a careful and thorough inquiry to understand what happened.
He assured the public that justice will be served according to the law and that anyone found responsible will be prosecuted.
The police also reminded parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their teenagers and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
