The Bauchi State Police have arrested an 18-year-old named Aisanu Nura. He is accused of causing the drowning of a 17-year-old boy, Abdullahi Muhammad, in Kari Village, Darazo Local Government Area.
Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the incident was reported to the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters on May 24, 2026.
Habib explained, “A report was received at the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters alleging that one Abdullahi Muhammad, male, aged 17 years, of Kari Village, drowned in the Kari River under circumstances suspected to involve one Aisanu Nura, male, aged 18 years, also of the same address.”
Initial investigations showed that the suspect might have lured the victim to the river, leading to his drowning. The police acted quickly, sending operatives to the scene to arrest the suspect and start a preliminary investigation.
The police spokesperson mentioned that they have not yet recovered the victim’s body, and search operations are still ongoing. “The body of the deceased is yet to be recovered, and search efforts are ongoing,” Habib stated.
He also mentioned that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough investigation.
Habib said that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a careful investigation to uncover what really happened.
The police commissioner assured the public that justice would be served according to the law. He said anyone found responsible would face prosecution.
The police also urged parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their teenagers. They should report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
