Jude Bellingham shone again as England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time on Saturday. This win secured their spot in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bellingham, who plays for Real Madrid, scored both goals for England. They came from behind to beat a strong Norwegian team. Now, they will face either the defending champions Argentina or Switzerland in the last-four match.
Norway started strong and took the lead in the 36th minute. Andreas Schjelderup received a pass from captain Martin Ødegaard and fired a great shot into the top corner, hitting the post before going in.
The goal was checked by VAR for a possible foul but was allowed to stand.
Just before halftime, England responded. Anthony Gordon made a smart pass into the box, and Bellingham finished quickly into the bottom corner to level the score in stoppage time.
Harry Kane thought he had put England ahead moments before, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Norway nearly regained the lead after the break. Torbjørn Heggem scored from close range, but another VAR check ruled the goal out for a foul in the build-up.
The Norwegian team continued to press, with Kristoffer Ajer hitting the crossbar. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford then made a fantastic save to stop Patrick Berg's shot.
With no winner in regular time, the match went into extra time.
England finally scored in the 93rd minute. Harry Kane's shot was saved by goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, but Bellingham reacted quickly to blast in the rebound and give England a vital lead.
Later, England were awarded a penalty after Oscar Bobb fouled a player. But referee Clément Turpin changed his mind after reviewing the play with VAR.
Despite this, England held on for a tough win. They are still in the race for their second World Cup title.
Bellingham's performance highlighted his rising impact on the international stage. At 23 years and 12 days old, he became the second-youngest player after Pelé in 1958 to score two or more goals in back-to-back World Cup knockout games.
His two goals also brought his total to six non-penalty goals in one major tournament, matching Gary Lineker’s long-standing England record.
England will now wait to see who wins the quarter-final between Argentina and Switzerland as they chase a spot in the World Cup final.
