Nigerian boxer Godday Appah and streamer Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, known as Carter Efe, will headline Chaos in the Ring on October 1. This event returns to Lagos to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Appah will defend the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship against Ghana’s Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah. Efe will face rapper Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, in the celebrity boxing main event.
Before the fight, the press conference turned chaotic. Both fighters clashed during their face-offs, testing the limits of security to avoid a fight. The most intense moment happened when Appah and Gyimah confronted each other, trying to get closer.
Gyimah ducked past security to reach Appah, while Appah pushed a security guard aside as they struggled to keep them apart. The commotion grew when Efe and Speed Darlington also had a heated clash. Efe stripped to his boxers and jumped over the table between them. Speed Darlington grabbed a stack of chairs in response.
Tension spread to the professional card too. Basit “Jokerboy” Adebayo and his opponent exchanged words in Yoruba before security stepped in to calm things down.
Chaos in the Ring will take place at The Balmoral, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, on Thursday, October 1. Appah will defend Nigerian pride against a Ghanaian challenger eager to leave Lagos with the title.
This will be Appah’s first defence of a continental title since he won the WBO Africa cruiserweight crown with a split-decision victory over Ezra Arenyeka in May. Organisers had promoted that fight as a symbolic peace event between the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities of the Niger Delta.
Efe comes into the celebrity fight after winning against singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision at the same venue in May. That win earned him a promised ₦50 million reward from businessman Emeka “E-Money” Okonkwo.
The professional card also includes Adebayo against Fatiu Jomoni, Eworitse “African King” Arenyeka against Lekan “The Engine” Muibi, Yusuf “Swaggu” Adeniji against Tagoe, Israel Makinde against Abiodun Muyideen, and Rimpassakde “The King Cobra” Kinda against Rosnov. This lineup features a strong group of fighters from across the continent.
Dr Ezekiel Adamu, founder of Chaos in the Ring and Balmoral Group Promotions, said the event aims to create a home for African boxing and showcase the continent’s talent to a global audience.
“It’s never about perfection. It’s always about momentum,” Adamu stated.
SuperSport and DAZN will broadcast the event to viewers across Africa and around the world. Organisers aim to build on a platform that grows at the crossroads of sport, entertainment, and African culture.
