Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats star, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has made history as the African artiste with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart.

He has outdone fellow Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, who goes by the name Tems.

Burna Boy shared this big news on his social media on Tuesday. He called it a major achievement in his music career.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that both Burna Boy and Tems had eight entries each on the famous chart before now.

But Burna Boy got a ninth entry thanks to his collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira on the official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai.”

The song made its debut at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100. This brought Burna Boy's total number of entries to nine, the most by any African artist.

The track gained even more attention after Burna Boy and Shakira performed it at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

NAN notes that this achievement puts Burna Boy ahead of Tems, who is now in second place for Billboard Hot 100 entries among African artists.

The “Last Last” singer is also the first African artist to have at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six straight years.

His entries on the Billboard Hot 100 include “Loved By You” (2021), “Last Last” (2022), “Sitting On Top of the World” and “Talibans II” (2023), “Just Like Me” and “We Pray” (2024), “WGFT” (2025), plus “Only You” and “Dai Dai” (2026).

NAN adds that Burna Boy recently crossed 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify, hitting a new high for his career on the streaming service.

The Afrobeats superstar has also received several nominations as the 2026 Grammy Awards approach.
