Former Ghana national team coach Carlos Queiroz has shared an emotional farewell message to the people of Ghana after finishing his time with the Black Stars. He talked about the team’s achievements, lessons learned, and his hopes for the future of football in Ghana.
In a heartfelt message on his social media page, the Portuguese coach expressed pride in what his team achieved during his time. He also emphasized that there is still more to aim for and achieve.
Queiroz opened his message with a strong life lesson:
"To Ghana,
Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn."
The experienced coach mentioned that he leaves Ghana with mixed feelings. He feels satisfied with the progress made but still has a strong desire for more success.
"I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination; it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions."
Queiroz pointed out that the long-term success of Ghana's football depends on building the right structures off the pitch. He stated that the Black Stars can only achieve sustainable success by creating an environment that nurtures and develops the country’s talented footballers.
"The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent."
The former coach also thanked the Ghana Football Association. He expressed gratitude to its president and board members for allowing him to lead one of Africa’s biggest national teams.
"To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honor and privilege to serve the Country and the Black Stars."
Queiroz praised the players and his technical staff, recognizing their courage, professionalism, and dedication during his time.
"To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team."
He also spoke to the supporters of the Black Stars. Queiroz acknowledged that the team may not have reached complete sporting satisfaction but noted that they restored pride and respect for Ghana on the football stage.
"To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage."
Queiroz ended his farewell on a hopeful note. He thanked Ghanaians for their support and showed confidence in the future of the country’s football.
"Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now.
To the future."
This farewell message marks the end of Queiroz’s time with the Black Stars. It also highlights his belief that Ghana’s future success will depend on strong football administration and player development, as much as it does on performances on the field. His words challenge Ghanaian football stakeholders to build on the foundation he believes has been laid and keep striving for greater success.
