Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has called on the team to make the most of the international break after their disappointing 3-0 loss to Brentford in the Premier League.
Chelsea started strong at the Gtech Community Stadium and controlled much of the first half. But after halftime, their performance dropped, and Brentford scored three goals without reply to take all three points.
This defeat leaves Chelsea with seven points from their first five league matches. It shows they need to step up as Xabi Alonso continues to build the team.
In a post on Chelsea’s website on Sunday, Colwill said that Chelsea has shown both good and bad signs in the early weeks of the season.
“[There have been] some good bits, some other not so good bits,” the defender said.
The 23-year-old, who missed a lot of last season due to a knee injury, was not picked for England’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
This means Colwill will stay with Chelsea during the international break and keep working with Alonso to fix some of the problems seen in their loss to Brentford.
Instead of seeing the break as negative, Colwill thinks it can give the team valuable time to regroup, improve, and come back stronger.
“Luckily we’ve got a while now to try and improve,” he said.
“Hopefully, we will come out the other side flying, pick up our play, and become a better team.”
Now Chelsea has time to think about their start to the season before they return to Premier League action. Colwill is confident that the team can use this period to make progress under Alonso.
