Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will start an individual rehabilitation program soon in Denmark. This follows talks with his club, VfL Wolfsburg, in Germany.
On Thursday, the Bundesliga team shared the news on their verified X account. They said the decision came after a discussion between Eriksen and Wolfsburg's Managing Director, Dieter Hecking.
The club noted that the 34-year-old will continue his recovery in Denmark while staying in touch with Wolfsburg and his medical team.
“Christian Eriksen will soon begin an individual rehabilitation program. After a conversation with VfL managing director Dieter Hecking, it was decided that the 34-year-old will complete this in his home country of Denmark.
“VfL is in regular contact with Christian as well as the treating physicians. For the course of his rehabilitation, we continue to wish Christian all the best,” the club said.
Eriksen’s recovery plan comes a few weeks after he collapsed during Denmark’s first match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game was stopped while medical staff rushed to help him on the field.
He was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and then to the hospital, where he later woke up and was reported to be in stable condition.
His collapse raised alarm across the football community, with many players, fans, and organizations sending messages of support.
After the incident, the Danish Football Association confirmed that Eriksen was recovering under medical care. FIFA and various clubs, including his previous teams, also showed support for him.
The skilled playmaker later expressed gratitude to supporters for their prayers and encouragement. He said he was focused on following medical advice as he worked on his recovery.
Eriksen, one of Denmark’s key players, has had a successful career with clubs like Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Brentford, and Manchester United before moving to Wolfsburg.
He has represented Denmark over 140 times and is one of the nation's most celebrated footballers.
