Christiane Amanpour from CNN mistakenly said Nigeria is where Edward Kijanangoma became King of the Tooro Kingdom.

The actual event happened in Uganda, where the Tooro Kingdom is located.

She made this mistake in a post on X, sharing a clip of her report on the event.

In the post, she wrote, "The TV anchor who would be king. In Nigeria this week, a new king was coronated with pomp and circumstance, but his resume is what’s really standing out."

Many of her followers, including both Nigerians and Ugandans, noticed the mistake and pointed it out in the comments.

Yet, five hours after posting, Ms Amanpour still has not corrected her mistake.

The new king, who is also a well-known journalist in Uganda, was crowned last Tuesday in Fort Portal, a small town in Western Uganda. His coronation sparked a dispute over succession.

He is a prince and was previously known as a broadcaster and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corp. His appointment to replace the late king, Oyo Rukidi IV, who died at 34 without an heir, caused a lot of controversy.

Mr Nyabongo was not very high on the line of succession, but the elders in the ruling clan, known as the Babiito, chose him from a group of eligible princes.

In Uganda, traditional leaders do not have formal power and cannot engage in politics.

But they hold a lot of influence among their people as protectors of their culture.

At his coronation, the new king promised to be a unifying figure for all his subjects.

Ms Amanpour reported that the new king will represent identity and heritage.

She shared that he mentioned heritage must go hand in hand with discipline and hard work.

Some people have linked her mistake to a common view in the West that Africa is just one country instead of a continent with 54 nations.

Others called it a "sloppy blunder."
