DAZN gets LaLiga broadcasting rights for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa

Sports streaming service DAZN has landed the rights to show LaLiga EA Sports across Sub-Saharan Africa for the next three seasons, including Nigeria.

With this deal, DAZN subscribers in 48 countries will be able to watch all 380 matches in each season from 2026/27 to 2028/29.

The coverage kicks off this weekend, giving football fans in Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African nations a chance to enjoy the top Spanish league through live and on-demand broadcasts.

This agreement comes as LaLiga gains more interest in Africa, with several African players now in the league.

Nigerian players Ademola Lookman and Chidera Ejuke are among those competing in LaLiga, which adds local excitement for Nigerian viewers.

Lookman joined Atlético Madrid after showing he is one of the top attackers in Europe, while Ejuke is also playing in Spain. Their presence gives Nigerian fans even more reasons to watch the league, alongside big clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid.

DAZN will air all LaLiga matches in both English and Spanish. They will also feature highlights, past footage, weekly shows, and behind-the-scenes content.

The rights cover Nigeria and other countries like Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Seychelles, South Africa, Eswatini, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, among others.

This deal marks a growth of DAZN’s presence in Africa, following the launch of FIFA+ on the platform earlier this year.

With FIFA+, DAZN has provided live and on-demand content from various African domestic leagues, including competitions in Burkina Faso, Malawi, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Mali, Burundi, Botswana, Tunisia, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire.

“LALIGA is home to some of the biggest clubs, players and rivalries in world football, and we are excited to expand our long-standing partnership by bringing every match to fans across Sub-Saharan Africa over the next three seasons,” DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev said.

“Football is at the heart of DAZN’s global offering. We have built one of the largest football portfolios in the world, covering domestic leagues, international competitions, and national team football.

“Earlier this year, we expanded that offering through the launch of FIFA+ on DAZN, which includes many African domestic leagues and competitions on our platform. This agreement strengthens our commitment to football fans across Africa and boosts DAZN’s standing as the home of sport globally.”

LaLiga president Javier Tebas said this deal will help fans in the region follow the competition more easily.

“Sub-Saharan Africa is a region with a huge passion for football and a growing community of LALIGA fans. Through this agreement with DAZN, we are reinforcing our long-standing relationship with one of our major global partners and making it simpler for millions of fans in the region to follow every match of our competition,” Mr Tebas said.

This partnership builds on an existing relationship between DAZN and LaLiga, with both groups already working together in countries like Spain, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France.

For Nigerian viewers, this agreement creates another way to follow Spanish football throughout the season, especially with Nigerian players in the league.
