Olanrewaju “God’s Power” Durodola, a seasoned cruiserweight, showed he is ready for a world title. He knocked out Sadiq Akano in the first round during the Prizefighting.tv Boxing Classic at the National Stadium in Surulere.
The 45-year-old sent Akano to the canvas early in their eight-round fight. Referee Moruf Akanbi stopped the match after Akano could not get up in time. With this win, Durodola’s professional record now stands at 50 wins, 45 by knockout, out of 51 fights.
Durodola quickly took charge of the match. He cut off the ring and landed powerful punches that knocked Akano down. The crowd at the NIS Gymnasium cheered loudly for Durodola’s performance.
The event featured eleven other fights across different weight classes. In the first bout, Adebayo Adeniyi Dada defeated Kola Adeyemo in round three when Adeyemo’s corner threw in the towel. Samuel Elegbede won against Sadiq Popoola in a middleweight match by unanimous decision after six rounds.
Ganiu Olaitan was awarded a fourth-round TKO over Walter Sunday when Sunday could not continue due to a bleeding nose. The heavyweight match between Ezekiel Igbozurike and Sunday Abudu ended in a draw. In another middleweight fight, Saheed Abdullahi stopped Wasiu Jimoh with a fourth-round TKO in their eight-round contest.
The most exciting match was in the super bantamweight division. Opeyemi Ibrahim from Ibadan narrowly beat Abiodun Muyideen by unanimous decision after a thrilling six-round fight.
In an international middleweight match, Hamzat Idris and Oluwashina Ayomikun Balogun fought to a draw. Yusuf Ayinde Ogunbunmi won against Ibukun Ipaje in an eight-round welterweight fight by unanimous decision.
Sadam Oladipupo defeated Yusuf Ogunbunmi by unanimous decision in a six-round super lightweight fight. Temitope Ademulere stopped Tanjar Bethel Defence in round five by TKO. Samson Kazeem finished the night with a third-round technical knockout against Anselme Gnansingbe in their eight-round match.
The event also aimed to support Kabiru “KB” Towolawi, a regular fighter in the promotion. His wife, Folashade, is currently battling cancer. Prizefighting.tv donated N1 million to help with medical expenses.
Meyen Akiri, the spokesman for the organization, said they wanted to help ease the family’s burdens during this tough time.
"The Prizefighting.tv gesture is just a token of assistance to Kabiru Towolawi, who is a regular face on our fighting cards. We hope it will go some way in assisting him in offsetting some of the medical bills at this challenging period," Akiri said.
