Nigerian champions Edo Queens will play against ASEC Mimosas from Côte d’Ivoire in their second Group B match of the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. This comes after they kicked off their campaign with an impressive 7-0 win over AS Garde Nationale from Niger.

The Edo State champions put on a strong performance in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on Monday. They started their journey in style and quickly showed they are serious contenders for the only CAF Women’s Champions League qualification ticket in the tournament.

Chioma Moses was the star of the match, scoring three goals. Atume Doosuur netted two goals, while Aminat Folorunsho and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi also found the net, turning the game into a one-sided affair.

Moses scored the first goal just five minutes into the match. She then converted a penalty three minutes before half-time, giving Edo Queens a 2-0 lead at the break.

After the break, Edo Queens kept the pressure on. Doosuur made it 3-0 in the 47th minute and scored again nine minutes later. Folorunsho added the fifth goal in the 62nd minute. Moses completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute, and Adegbuyi finished off the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time.

Moses’ brilliant performance earned her the Woman of the Match award.

This victory puts Edo Queens at the top of Group B based on goal difference. Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies are also on three points after beating ASEC Mimosas 1-0.

Edo Queens will now focus on ASEC Mimosas, with the match set for Thursday, 27 August, at 3 pm.

The Ivorian champions will be a tougher opponent for Edo Queens. They represented Côte d’Ivoire at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League and reached the final. They will also be looking to bounce back after losing to Ampem Darkoa in their first match.

This Group B match is crucial for Edo Queens’ chances of reaching the semi-finals, as only one team from WAFU-B will qualify for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

On Thursday at 6 pm, Ampem Darkoa will face AS Garde Nationale in another Group B match.

The group stage will end on Sunday, 30 August. Edo Queens will play Ampem Darkoa at 4 pm, while Garde Nationale will take on ASEC Mimosas at the same time.

The top two teams from each group will move on to the semi-finals on 2 September. The final and third-place match are set for 5 September.

Edo Queens hope to repeat their success from 2024. They won the WAFU-B qualifiers in their first attempt and finished fourth in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

After their stunning 7-0 victory, the Nigerian champions now look forward to facing ASEC Mimosas. This match is another important step towards returning to Africa’s biggest women’s club competition.
