The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a 27 per cent drop in road traffic crashes and a 22 per cent decrease in crash victims during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir compared to 2025.
The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Osondu Ohaeri, shared this news in a statement on Saturday from Abuja.
Mr Ohaeri called this result one of the corps most impressive achievements in recent years.
He said it shows that the corps's proactive traffic management strategies, public awareness campaigns, strict enforcement, and improved emergency response are working well.
The report shows that road traffic crashes during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations dropped significantly from 191 in 2025 to 142 in 2026.
There was also a reduction in the number of people involved in crashes, going from 1,364 in 2025 to 1,064 in 2026.
“Additionally, the corps (FRSC) achieved a 25.4 per cent decrease in injuries, with the number of injured persons reducing from 576 to 430 in this period,” he added.
“These impressive gains represent hundreds of lives saved and families spared from the harsh effects of road traffic crashes,” he said.
Mr Ohaeri credited this success to the smart deployment of personnel and resources across key routes nationwide.
He said this was made possible through constant patrols, intelligence-led surveillance, motorized patrols, quick rescue actions, traffic calming measures, teamwork with stakeholders, and ongoing public education efforts.
“The corps used these methods to create safer travel conditions for millions of Nigerians traveling across the country before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations,” he said.
Mr Ohaeri also quoted the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praising the hard work, professionalism, and determination shown by personnel, special marshals, and partner agencies during this operation.
Mr Mohammed pointed out that these results show that consistent enforcement, smart planning, and a united effort towards road safety can greatly lessen the number of crashes on Nigerian roads.
He thanked motorists and other road users for following traffic rules and listening to the corps' safety messages during the festive season.
Mr Mohammed also assured the public that the FRSC is committed to improving its efforts, increasing engagement with stakeholders, and boosting operational efficiency to achieve even better reductions in crashes, injuries, and deaths.
He urged road users to keep up the safety culture even after the festive periods, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility that needs everyone's cooperation.
