An Emmanuel College student from Owerri, Daniel Onyechinedu, has received an invitation to join the Heartland FC feeder team. This came after he impressed everyone with his performance in a recent novelty football match.
The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Evarestus Onyeocha, made the announcement. He watched Onyechinedu, who wore the No. 7 jersey for Emmanuel College, show off his football skills during the match.
The novelty match was organized to celebrate the handover of a newly renovated five-classroom block to the school. The match ended with a score of 2-1.
Onyeocha praised the school and its former students for their dedication to sports development. He said that Onyechinedu’s performance has opened the door for him to join the Heartland FC feeder team.
The commissioner also mentioned that the state government will keep supporting projects that help find and develop young sports talents in the state.
The renovation and handover of the classroom block were done by the Progressive Unique 1988 Set, a group of old boys from Emmanuel College.
Engr. Obii Madumere spoke for the group and said that the renovation was part of their efforts to give back to their school.
Madumere added that the group also gave brand-new football jerseys to the school team. This was to inspire sporting excellence, teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among the students.
In response, Onyechinedu expressed his gratitude to the state government and the commissioner for the chance to show his talent.
He promised to stay committed to his growth and to always give his best. He assured everyone that he would not let down his parents or the school.
