Former governors Yahaya Bello of Kogi and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa are having closed-door talks with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Our reporter saw the group, known as the leadership of the National Directorate of Arewa for Asiwaju Movement, arrive around 4 pm. They were taken directly to the Vice President’s office in the State House.
When they got there, Shettima was still in another meeting at the President’s office, which started around 2 pm. The meeting included the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and the President's Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform, Prof. Attahiru Jega. Jega used to be the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The reason for the delegation’s visit is still unclear. However, sources say it was a courtesy visit. Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, Director General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), and Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, were also seen there.
This meeting comes just two days before the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council is set to launch on Wednesday, October 14, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
It also happens 12 days before the party's campaign kicks off in Kaduna State on October 24. Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the council, shared these dates with State House reporters on Friday after his briefing with President Bola Tinubu at the Villa.
Yari mentioned that the campaign will continue to Port Harcourt and Maiduguri after Kaduna. He said the complete schedule will be released after the council is inaugurated.
Tinubu is aiming for re-election in the presidential election on January 16, 2027.
