The Super Falcons are getting ready for the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament starts in Morocco next Sunday. Nigeria, the defending champions, will play Ghana in a friendly match in Casablanca on Saturday.
The team, which has won the cup ten times, opened their camp in Casablanca, Morocco’s main city, on Monday. They are preparing for their first Group C match against Malawi in Rabat on Tuesday, July 28.
By Tuesday lunchtime, 10 players had checked into the Super Falcons’ hotel in Casablanca. Midfielder Toni Payne, who recently moved to Inter Milan Women from Everton Women, is expected to arrive on Wednesday.
Head coach Justine Madugu is leading the team. The tournament favorites held their first training session on Tuesday at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
At the team’s Marriott Hotel in Casablanca are captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Fatima Oloko, defenders Oluwatosin Demehin, Glory Ogbonna, Shukurat Oladipo, and Rofiat Imuran, midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini, and forward Asisat Oshoala.
The friendly against Ghana’s Black Queens will also take place at Stade Larbi Zaouli. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. Ghana lost to the Super Falcons in the final of the first tournament held in Nigeria in 1998.
After the match against Malawi on July 28, Nigeria will play Zambia on Saturday, August 1. They will end their Group C games against Egypt on Wednesday, August 5.
