Super Eagles player Femi Azeez says he cannot control his future as talk builds around a summer transfer. Aston Villa and Ipswich Town are both linked to the Millwall forward after he had a great season in the Championship, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 24-year-old was one of the best players in the league this season. He scored 11 goals and assisted eight times in 35 games across all competitions as Millwall just missed promotion.
Millwall finished third in the Championship but lost in the playoff semi-finals to Hull City. Despite the disappointment, Azeez earned a spot in the EFL Championship Team of the Season. He also attracted the attention of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, who gave him his senior international debut during the Unity Cup.
Azeez celebrated his debut with two goals in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe. He also assisted in the 3-0 final win against Jamaica, helping Nigeria keep the trophy.
Millwall has already rejected a Β£20m bid from newly promoted Ipswich Town. Aston Villa is also watching the situation closely. The Europa League champions may act quickly if Morgan Rogers leaves, as he has interest from several top European clubs.
On the topic of his future, Azeez was calm in his response. βIt is not up to me, you know. Now I am on holiday, and I want to enjoy it with my kids and prepare for the season with Millwall, so that is what I am thinking right now,β he said via FlashScore.
While he sounds relaxed, Azeez has big dreams. βAs a footballer, you always want to play at the highest level you can play at. The Premier League is the pinnacle of football. I would love to play in the Premier League. So obviously, I am working hard, and I am going to do whatever I can to get there,β Azeez told PUNCH Sports Extra.
With Millwall not playing in the Premier League next season, the pressure to sell their key player will increase if a good offer comes. Ipswich, having already made a bid, may return with a better offer. Villa's ongoing interest means this is a situation to keep an eye on as the transfer window opens.
