Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez is facing more criticism even after Rangers won 1-0 against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night. Former goalkeeper Cammy Bell criticized Fernandez's decision-making during the match, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Fernandez played alongside Olwethu Makhanya as Rangers grabbed three points with Bojan Miovski’s goal in the 91st minute at Ibrox.

Even with the win and a clean sheet, Fernandez made a mistake in the second half. He lost the ball in a risky area while trying to play from the back, which could have cost his team.

Bell, who is now a commentator for Rangers TV, expressed his disappointment with Fernandez’s choice. He said, "When you’re a centre-half, you need to make better decisions. These are bad decisions. That flick there. Can’t be doing that."

He added, "He’s an excellent player, but you just cannot do that."

This new round of criticism comes soon after Fernandez spoke about earlier comments on his performances. Rangers had a slow start to the season, which brought some scrutiny.

Before Wednesday’s match, Fernandez said he is focused on improving himself rather than worrying about what others say. He mentioned, "I don’t really look into what is said about me. I just try to focus on myself and try to improve to be better."

The centre-back also pointed out that he needs to work on his concentration during key moments. He admitted that small mistakes can give opponents chances to attack.

Fernandez had a solid debut season at Rangers after moving from Peterborough United in 2025. However, he has not been able to keep the same level of consistency this season.

Although Wednesday’s win continued Rangers’ winning streak, Fernandez's latest error is likely to keep him in the spotlight. He will need to step up his game to answer the criticism.
