A former House of Representatives aspirant from the Africa Democratic Congress, Alhaji Bashar Geda, has switched to the All Progressives Congress. He made this move along with party executives and thousands of his supporters in Kebbi State.

The defection happened on Saturday at Nasarawa I Ward. APC leaders welcomed the new members into the ruling party during a formal ceremony.

At the event, the APC State Chairman, who was represented by the party’s Vice Chairman for Kebbi Central, Alhaji Shehu Idris, said this change is a big win for the party. He welcomed the defectors and promised them equal chances in party matters.

“The APC remains a party committed to the welfare and interests of the masses. We welcome you into our fold and assure you of fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities,” he said.

Bashar Geda spoke to his supporters, explaining that he left the ADC because of the developmental work done by Governor Nasir Idris in the state. He said the governor’s performance inspired him and his supporters to join the APC and help with the administration’s success.

“I have seen the good work you have done for the people of Kebbi State. In view of this, I, alongside my supporters, have resolved to support you and ensure the success of your administration,” Geda stated.

Geda had previously contested in the ADC primary election for the House of Representatives seat for the Bunza, Birnin Kebbi, and Kalgo Federal Constituency.

In response, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the defectors for joining the APC. He assured them they would be treated fairly in the party.

He called Bashar Geda a political son and promised to support him. “You have taken a courageous decision to join our party. I assure you that you will not regret this step. Bashar Geda remains our son, and we will continue to support him politically,” the governor said.

As part of his visit, Governor Idris also visited Bashar’s father, Alhaji Abubakar Geda, at his home in Badariya. During their meeting, the governor reiterated his promise for inclusive and fair governance.

Alhaji Abubakar Geda pledged his family’s support for Governor Idris’ second-term goal and the APC’s chances in the state elections.

“Let me state categorically that my family and political associates will stand firmly behind your second-term ambition and ensure that the APC wins the forthcoming general elections in the state,” he said.

Governor Idris thanked the Geda family for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more development projects for the people of Kebbi State.
