Funke Akindele responds to false death rumor about director of 'The Four'

Nollywood star Funke Akindele has denied a false claim that the director of her new movie, ‘The Four’, died in an accident.

The rumor spread on X on Tuesday. It suggested that Akindele broke down during an Instagram Live session after hearing about the supposed death.

An X user named #GodfreyWis44495 shared the post. It included a message that claimed Akindele had spoken about a director who was allegedly involved in an accident while heading to her house.

However, Akindele quickly dismissed the claim in her reply to the post on X.

She wrote back, “Your words shall return to you in Jesus name. You are looking for engagements Abi? God will give you!!!”

Her response came shortly after she announced her new movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone, set to hit cinemas on December 11, 2026. Reports show that the film was first announced on August 10 and will be released worldwide.

The viral post also included an old video of Akindele crying during an Instagram Live session. It falsely claimed this was her recent reaction to the supposed death.

The post stated that Akindele had spoken to the alleged director just two hours before the accident and rushed to the hospital after hearing the news.

It also suggested that Akindele was thinking about delaying The Four because of this incident.

Akindele’s response rejected this idea, calling the post an effort to gain attention.

The filmmaker recently revealed the cast of The Four, a drama about friendship, motherhood, resilience, and the power of everyday women. The film will be released in cinemas on December 11, 2026, with FilmOne managing its distribution.

The announcement of the film has sparked interest online, with Akindele gathering a strong cast that includes herself, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, and Uzor Arukwe, among others.

This is not the first time Akindele has had to address false narratives. In April 2026, PUNCH Online reported that she denied a viral video claiming she snubbed Fuji musician Wasiu Pasuma at an event.

This recent rumor highlights how old or misleading celebrity videos can spread on social media, especially when presented as current news.

Akindele has not said anything about changing the release date of The Four on December 11.
