The heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is set to make history in British boxing. Ticket sales are expected to hit $34 million (£26 million).
Joshua, who is British-Nigerian, will face Fury on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. This fight is valued at nearly £150 million for both fighters.
This rivalry has been building for over ten years.
Around 80,000 tickets sold within an hour. Prices ranged from £80 to £13,000 for the top seats. Over 500,000 people were waiting in the online queue.
Dana White from Zuffa Boxing revealed these sales figures. He is involved personally with Turki Alalshikh, not as an official promoter. White told Sky Sports that fewer than 700 tickets are left.
"You can consider this thing a sellout already. We have this thing scaled for around $34 million," White said.
This gate would set a new record in Britain. Fury and Joshua already hold two of the top three spots in British boxing. Joshua’s fight against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in 2024 made £14 million. Fury’s win over Dillian Whyte at the same venue earned £12 million.
On a global scale, the Cardiff fight will not break the record. Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao leads with over $70 million. Mayweather's 2017 fight with Conor McGregor follows at $55 million. Canelo Alvarez’s match with Terence Crawford in Las Vegas, which White also worked on, earned $47 million.
Millions are expected to tune in to watch the Cardiff fight on Netflix.
