Galatasaray is planning a big move for Super Eagles players Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika. The Turkish champions want to boost their team for another chance at European football. But both transfers face some challenges, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Turkish news outlet A Spor says Galatasaray has picked these two Nigerian stars as top targets this summer. This would add to the strong Nigerian presence at the club after Victor Osimhen joined from Napoli last year.
Onyedika seems to be the easier target. The 25-year-old midfielder has chosen not to extend his contract with Club Brugge. His current deal runs until June 2027. The Belgian club is open to offers around €20 million to avoid losing their bargaining power as the contract nears its end.
Galatasaray has shown interest in the Super Eagles midfielder for a long time. His strong pressing style and calmness on the ball have caught the eye of many clubs in Europe. Aston Villa, West Ham United, and Everton are also watching his situation closely.
Onyedika’s strong performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and his consistent play in the Belgian Pro League have made him more attractive. German club Wolfsburg had a €20 million bid turned down in the winter window, showing the tough competition Galatasaray faces.
Lookman’s Situation
The situation with Lookman is more complicated. The 28-year-old just moved to Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in February for about €35 million plus add-ons. He signed a contract that lasts until 2030.
But reports from Spain and Turkey say Atlético might consider offers around €60 million this summer. Lookman has struggled to fit into Diego Simeone’s tough defensive system, though he scored four goals in La Liga and added goals in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League.
If Lookman becomes available, many clubs will show interest. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Fenerbahçe are all said to be keeping an eye on him. Fenerbahçe nearly signed him before Atlético made their move in January.
Galatasaray will face a tough challenge to compete financially with these clubs, especially the ones from the Premier League, if they are serious about signing these players.
