GehGeh Explains Wedding Video Was Just Promotion

Popular content creator and self-proclaimed relationship coach, Emmanuel Obruste, known as GehGeh, told Saturday Beats that the viral wedding videos of him in traditional attire with a woman were for a movie project, not a real marriage.

In an exclusive chat with our reporter, GehGeh made it clear that the wedding was a publicity stunt for the film he was working on.

He said, “It was all content for visibility for the movie I was working on. Every content creator knows there are different strategies you can use to generate discussions and make your work trend. That’s the approach I used. The goal was to get people talking, and it worked.”

When asked about criticism that his actions went against his relationship advice, he denied any hypocrisy.

“My advice has never been that people shouldn’t get married. What I always tell people is to be careful, especially when it comes to their finances. Use your sense when you’re with a woman. Marriage itself is not the problem; you just have to be wise,” he said.

On his personal life, GehGeh stressed that he is not rushing into marriage. “Marriage is a good thing. It’s not something I would hide or do behind closed doors. If I decide today that I want to get married, do you know how many sponsors I would get? It’s not as if anyone caught me getting married secretly. We posted the wedding video ourselves because it was part of the promotion.

“I’m very comfortable. I can feed myself, take care of my children and meet my responsibilities. So when I eventually decide to get married, it will be real, not for fame or publicity.”

He also mentioned that the staged scenes did not push him to settle down with the woman in the video. He pointed out that the backlash has helped his career by increasing his visibility and attracting more media opportunities.

“I get lots of press and interview requests now. At the end of the day, it’s social media. Content is supposed to spark conversations, whether they’re good or bad. Once people are talking about it, it has done its job.”

The videos, which went viral in late July 2026, showed GehGeh and a woman (some say her name is Mary) dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits. They showed dancing, cake-cutting, and reception scenes that many thought were from a private traditional ceremony in Minna, Niger State. The footage caused a lot of debate because of GehGeh’s long history of giving advice about relationships, finance, and marriage through his “University of Wisdom and Understanding.”

For years, the influencer has been known for his sharp comments, which many saw as anti-marriage. He has talked about marriage being a possible financial burden or “trap,” highlighted having multiple baby mamas, and criticized some celebrities for rushing into marriage. Both followers and critics saw the videos as a surprising change in his message.

Reactions online came quickly. Some fans felt betrayed, saying he abandoned the “brotherhood” and left men “for the streets.” One person claiming to be a former manager said GehGeh’s teachings made him leave his own marriage. Others mocked the apparent hypocrisy with memes and skits, while some supporters congratulated the couple or defended his right to change. Speculations ranged from a real secret wedding to AI-generated fakes or a publicity stunt.
