Minister of Works David Umahi has stirred up discussions on social media. He announced that the Federal Government plans to engage 4,000 influencers. These influencers will showcase President Bola Tinubu’s achievements and inform Nigerians about the government’s projects and policies.
The Punch reported that Mr Umahi made this statement on Tuesday in Abuja. He spoke after receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). This report followed the students’ visit to federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Sokoto states.
He mentioned that the Tinubu administration is prepared to handle criticism and opposition online. He expressed pride in the president’s work on improving the country’s infrastructure.
The 63-year-old added that this influencer network would let the government directly reach Nigerians. They will especially focus on young people as the 2027 elections get closer.
He said, “We have to fight this social media war. So, we have to launch 4,000 social media influencers to tell our stories, and I want you to advise me on how to do it. You know I am proud of what the President is doing in infrastructure.
“I’m proud of all the gains we have made in various sectors of the economy, so we have to tell our stories. If you don’t say ‘I am’, nobody will tell you who you are.”
