I went four days without food or bath in police cell, Peller

Nigerian TikToker and streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, has opened up about his time in police detention. He said he did not bathe or eat for most of the four days he spent locked up.

Peller, who is 21 years old, was arrested on Friday in Lekki, Lagos. This happened after he had a run-in with police officers over his tinted car that did not have a number plate.

After getting out, Peller shared his experience on Snapchat. He wrote, “I am ugly now, I can’t show my face yet. Omo, I slept in cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life o.”

He mentioned that other inmates recognized him and playfully called him “001” during his time in the cell. Peller also said he did not eat or drink water for most of his detention.

“I no chop for four good days, I no bath,” he stated. This tough experience has made him more careful. He noted that he is now focused on staying out of trouble, especially with his wedding coming up.

“Nah my wedding dey my mind. Nah to dey waka jeje after wedding japa,” he said. A video that spread quickly after his arrest showed Peller accusing the police of harassment. He claimed they pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at his head before taking him away.

Peller insisted that he had just bought the car in question. He was taken to court on Tuesday, alongside a co-defendant, Bello Oladipo. They faced three charges: obstructing police officers, behaving in a way likely to disturb public peace, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The Lagos Magistrates’ Court granted him bail of ₦500,000, ending his four-day time in detention.
