The Independent National Electoral Commission has asked stakeholders in Ekiti State to help raise awareness about the ongoing collection of Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, made this request in a statement on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti. He urged registered voters who have not collected their PVCs, including those who just registered, to visit their registration areas and wards to get their cards.

Omoseyindemi mentioned that the PVC collection exercise started on June 2 and will end on June 11, 2026.

He promised that the commission is dedicated to holding a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election in the state, which is set for June 20, 2026.

According to him, PVC collection is ongoing at registration areas and wards from June 2 to June 8. After that, the process will continue at INEC local government offices from June 9 to June 11.

"The PVC is not just an identification document; it is a tool for democratic participation. It allows citizens to exercise their right to vote and shape the future of their communities and the nation," he said.

The REC called on community leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to help spread the word and encourage eligible voters to take part in the exercise.

"INEC Ekiti State Office is committed to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes. We urge all stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, and the public to assist in creating awareness and motivating eligible voters to participate in this exercise," Omoseyindemi said.

He added that just registering to vote is not enough. He stressed that collecting PVCs is a personal responsibility and an important step toward taking part in the electoral process.

"Every vote counts, and every eligible voter has a role to play in strengthening our democracy," he said.

The PVC collection exercise is part of the preparations for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

INEC has repeatedly highlighted how important it is to collect PVCs. Only voters with valid cards will be able to vote in the election.

The commission has also stepped up efforts in voter education and engaging stakeholders to boost participation and ensure a smooth electoral process.
