The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged stakeholders in Ekiti State to help inform residents about collecting their Permanent Voter Cards. This is important ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, made this request in a statement on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti. He asked registered voters who have not collected their PVCs, including those newly registered, to go to their registration areas and wards to get their cards.
Omoseyindemi explained that the PVC collection started on June 2 and will end on June 11, 2026.
He reaffirmed the commission's dedication to holding a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election set for June 20, 2026.
PVC collection is taking place at registration areas and wards across the state from June 2 to June 8. After that, it will continue at INEC local government offices from June 9 to June 11.
"The PVC is not just an identification document; it is an important tool for citizens to participate in democracy and exercise their right to vote to shape their communities and the nation," he said.
The REC called on community leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to help raise awareness and encourage eligible voters to join in this exercise.
"INEC Ekiti State Office is committed to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive elections. We ask all stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, and the public to help create awareness and encourage eligible voters to take part in this exercise," Omoseyindemi said.
He pointed out that voter registration alone is not enough. Collecting PVCs is a personal responsibility and a vital step to participating in the electoral process.
"Every vote counts, and every eligible voter has a role in strengthening our democracy," he added.
The PVC collection is part of the preparations for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
INEC has stressed how important it is to collect PVCs. Only voters with valid cards will be able to vote in the election.
The commission has also stepped up efforts in voter education and engaging stakeholders to encourage participation and ensure a smooth electoral process.
