The Independent National Electoral Commission is asking people in Ekiti State to help raise awareness about collecting Permanent Voter Cards before the 2026 governorship election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, made this request in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday. He urged registered voters who have not collected their PVCs, including those who just registered, to go to their registration areas and wards to get their cards.

Omoseyindemi said the PVC collection started on June 2 and will end on June 11, 2026.

He reaffirmed the commission’s promise to hold a credible, transparent, and inclusive governorship election in the state on June 20, 2026.

PVC collection is happening at registration areas and wards across Ekiti State from June 2 to June 8. After that, people can continue to collect their cards at INEC local government offices from June 9 to June 11.

"The PVC is not just an ID card; it is a way for citizens to take part in democracy. It helps them vote and shape the future of their communities and the nation," he said.

The REC called on community leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to help spread the word and encourage eligible voters to collect their PVCs.

"INEC Ekiti State Office is dedicated to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive elections. We ask all stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, and the public to help raise awareness and get eligible voters involved in this process," Omoseyindemi stated.

He added that just registering to vote is not enough. Collecting PVCs is a personal duty and an important step to participate in the elections.

"Every vote counts, and every eligible voter has a role to play in strengthening our democracy," he said.

The PVC collection is part of the preparations for the Ekiti State governorship election on June 20, 2026.

INEC has repeatedly stressed that collecting PVCs is important. Only voters with valid cards will be able to vote in the election.

The commission has also stepped up efforts in voter education and engaging stakeholders to increase participation and ensure a smooth electoral process.
